What Are So-Called Funnels?

Funnels in marketing are a process in which potential customers are guided through a series of actions, for example, to buy a product or service. This process is also known as the customer journey. Specifically, potential customers are targeted through advertising, email marketing, social media ads, website visits, and other actions.

These actions are designed to pique the interest of customers and encourage them to learn more about the product or service. On the basis of this, the purchase decision or, in the case of lead funnels, the contact, will ideally be made.

Lead and sales funnels

Both sales and lead funnels serve as a process in the targeted identification and approach of potential new customers. The difference lies in the final phase of the funnel:

In the sales funnel, this is usually the classic purchase of a product or service, which is subsequently followed by the “after-sale” and “loyalty” phases (see cover image). By clicking on the ad, the searcher then lands on a landing page, whose complexity has no limits and should now satisfy the searcher’s need in its entirety. The landing page is thus the decisive factor for successful conversions in the SEA funnel.
